An inmate who collapsed Monday in an Arlington Jail isolation cell died Friday at a hospital, authorities reported.

Jonathan Ryan Paul, 42, of Arlington was pronounced dead at 3:20 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner had not ruled on the cause and manner of Paul’s death.

An administrative and criminal investigation is being conducted, Arlington police said in a news release. Police have video of the area where Paul was being held but will not release it until after the investigation.

Paul was arrested after officers were called to his apartment in the 300 block of East Mitchell Street because of a disturbance. When they arrived, they heard Paul yelling and saw broken windows, the release said. Officers were told that Paul had been throwing items out of an upstairs window.

Officers determined that Paul was wanted on multiple misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested after officers tried several times to speak with him, the release said.

Paul was described as agitated and noncompliant at the Arlington Jail, and detention officers restrained him and put him in an isolation cell, the release said.

Moments later, officers saw that he was unresponsive and called for an ambulance.
