Man killed grandfather during fight in Grand Prairie, police say

A man strangled his grandfather Monday morning in a house in the central part of the city as the grandmother tried to stop him, police said.

The Dallas County medical examiner’s office identified the slain man as Oscar Taylor, 72, of Grand Prairie. A ruling on his death was pending.

Police identified his assailant as Diego Preciado, 25, of Grand Prairie.

Preciado was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remained in the Grand Prairie Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $500,000.

Patrol officers responding to a 911 hang-up call at 11:28 a.m. Monday went to the house near the 900 block of Northeast 19th Street and found a man dead and a woman pointing to a second man in the house as the killer, according to a news release.

“The grandfather and suspect grandson were involved in a physical and verbal altercation prior to the grandmother calling 911,” Detective Lyle Gensler said in an email Tuesday.

Detectives released no information on the motive for the fight.

Preciado lived in the house with his grandparents.
