Colleyville man sentenced for buying property with drug money

A Colleyville man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for purchasing property with money obtained from the sale of cocaine.

U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone sentenced James Donald Cagle, 61, to federal prison Wednesday. The judge also ordered Cagle to pay a fine of $10,000.

According to information presented in court, Cagle worked with Jose Vasquez Sr. — who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine in February 2013 — to finance and buy real and personal property under Cagle’s name and the names of Vasquez’s family members for Vasquez.

This partnership lasted from May 2008 to April 2010.

Prosecutors also said received payments from Vasquez in cash that was transported from Richardson to Cagle in Colleyville.

In a news release, the U.S. attorney’s office described Vasquez as “a large-scale distributor of cocaine in Texas.”

Cagle pleaded guilty on Nov. 19, 2013.
