A man shot by police early Wednesday outside a club has been identified as Inocente Acevedo Jr. of Fort Worth, police said Thursday.

Acevedo, 23, remained under arrest at a hospital.

Officer J.B. Caffey opened fire after Acevedo pointed a handgun at a crowd outside Bucks Cabaret in the 2300 block of Meacham Boulevard. After he was shot, Acevedo was pulled into a nearby truck and driven to the hospital. Police found the truck and arrested Acevedo in the hospital.

He faces a charge of deadly conduct, police Sgt. Steve Enright said in a Thursday email.

“There will be no other charges brought against other persons related to this offense,” Enright said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Patrol officers saw a disturbance in the parking lot and ordered the crowd to disperse. The officers exited their car when they heard a single gunshot and moved toward the crowd.

Caffey fired twice at a man standing next to a truck who was pointing a handgun at the crowd, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

Caffey, who has been on the force since 2007, is assigned to the north division patrol unit.

He was placed on routine administrative leave, police said. One of the first officers on the scene was wearing a body camera, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call police at 817-335-4222.
