Granbury man shoots wife six times, kills her, sheriff says

The Hood County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate a Thursday night homicide in which a husband confessed to shooting his wife six times at point-blank range.

Tommy George Dooley, 51, was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail at the Hood County Jail in the death of his wife, LaVera Dooley, 64.

LaVera Dooley was in her car trying to leave a house at the 6600 block of Colonial Drive when her husband unloaded a .38-caliber revolver through the driver side windshield, police say. The victim was on the phone with a 911 operator, but Tommy Dooley’s vehicle blocked hers from leaving the driveway.

Tommy Dooley then called 911 to explain what happened, Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said.

Once in custody, Tommy Dooley said he was mad, confessed to the slaying and gave his account of what happened, Deeds said.

Deeds said that police are still investigating what happened before the 911 call, but “apparently the marriage was going downhill in the last couple of months.”

Deeds added that police were sent to the home on a domestic disturbance call in January, but by the time officers arrived, Tommy Dooley had left.

Police said the firearm was legally owned and was in the house but could not confirm whether it belonged to Tommy or LaVera Dooley.
