14 pit-bull mixes seized from Kaufman County home
The SPCA of Texas seized 14 “cruelly treated” animals from a Kaufman County home Friday.
The 10 adults and four puppies will be taken care of by medical staff at the SPCA of Texas' Emergency Rescue Center in Dallas until a custody hearing Aug. 4 at the Kaufman County Courthouse. The pit-bull mixes were taken from a home in Able Springs, which is near Terrell.
The SPCA wrote in a press release that the adult dogs and two of the puppies were chained to car axles driven into the ground. Two of the other puppies were found inside a “feces-filled, urine soaked shed.”
It also reported that none of the dogs had proper access to food or water and whose living conditions were consistent with the “housing of game dogs (fighting dogs).”
The dogs had numerous health issues, including hair loss, flea infestation and sores among other problems.
“The animal owner was unavailable, and as at least one of the dogs appeared to be in dire need of rescue, the SPCA of Texas and Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office concurred that it was in the animals' best interest to remove them,” the SPCA wrote in a press release.
In response to a Facebook comment, the SPCA wrote that the dogs could be allowed to be adopted once the case is resolved.
“Despite everything these dogs have been through, they greeted our team with kisses and heartwarming gratitude,” the SPCA wrote on Facebook.
