Kholodenko to resume concert tour a month after daughters’ deaths
Cliburn winner Vadym Kholodenko plans to resume his concert tour next week, about a month after his two young daughters were killed and his estranged wife charged in their deaths.
In a statement released Thursday, Kholodenko said he plans to perform at his previously scheduled concert with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra on April 14.
“In this time of extreme loss and sorrow, I must look to music which has been so important in my life, and through which I can express myself. I ask those who will attend my concerts to also focus on the music. I continue to be grateful for those who are sending support from all over the world,” Kholodenko said in the statement.
Kholodenko’s two daughters, Nika, 5, and Michaela, 1, were found dead in their mother’s Benbrook home on March 17. His estranged wife, Sofya Tsygankova, was charged with capital murder and is undergoing a mental examination. The couple filed for divorce last fall and were living separately.
The Ukrainian pianist had been scheduled to perform and record Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra on March 18 but after his daughters’ deaths, he pulled out of the concert. That performance has been rescheduled for November, according to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
Kholodenko will perform Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, in Scotland, with Fort Worth’s maestro, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, conducting.
After the pianist returns, he has several concert dates in California in late April and is expected to perform at Corvallis-Oregon State University in May.
