Boudreaux the bear’s prediction agrees with the oddsmakers’.

In the always highly anticipated annual Fort Worth Zoo Super Bowl predictions, Boudreaux the 454-pound black bear predicted a Carolina Panthers win over the Denver Broncos.

Rumors of the big game being Broncos’ quarterback Peyton Manning’s last game seem to have had no bearing on the bear.

Wasting little time with the two papier-mache treat-filled footballs, each painted with the team’s logo and suspended in the bear’s enclosure, Boudreaux went straight to the Panther football and began to devise his plan.

The bear took a dismantling quick swipe at the Broncos football, perhaps a nod to Panther quarterback Cam Newton’s famed dab. After the Broncos ball took a Panther-like pounding, Boudreaux made full contact with the Panthers ball, leaving no question of his prediction.

Born at the Baton Rouge Zoo, Boudreaux has been a Fort Worth resident since 2000 and shares an enclosure with his female partner TJ, short for Tejas.

Even if Boudreaux did read Thursday’s Star-Telegram Sports section, which declared the North Carolina team as a 5.5 point betting favorite, the animals at the Fort Worth Zoo have a long history of predicting the winning Super Bowl team.

Before the season’s start, observers predicted that Denver had a high probability of making it to the Super Bowl. The Panthers, in comparison, were considered a long shot, a really long shot at 60-to-1 odds and losing a player at the start of the season. Today, the Panthers are not only the big-game favorites, but their dab-loving QB is predicted to win MVP in his first Super Bowl.

To sweeten the sweetened odds, in the past seven years, the Fort Worth Zoo animals have correctly predicted the Super Bowl champs five times.
