Denton teen dies in auto-pedestrian accident

A Denton teenager died on Sunday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Loop 288.

Sixteen-year-old Corey West was walking across Loop 288 at the intersection of McKinney Avenue with his friend when he was struck by a Jeep traveling southbound in the far right lane, Denton police said.

West was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center where he later died. The friend was not injured in the accident, said Denton officer Ryan Grelle.

“It is still an ongoing investigation,” Grelle said, adding the driver of the Jeep stopped and remained at the scene of the accident. “We don’t see any indication of alcohol or drug use at this time.”
