Freezing rain most likely to the west, forecasters say
Those traveling west this holiday week could run into freezing rain and sleet that is forecast to last from Tuesday night through New Year’s Day, according to the latest weather forecast.
Travelers to Abilene and San Angelo will see the worst of the weather: A winter storm warning is in effect, said Joe Harris, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Party-goers driving home after New Year’s Eve celebrations could see light rain shortly after midnight, Harris said.
“We might get a little freezing rain News Year’s morning after daybreak, but after that it’s going to be rain and maybe some showers from Thursday afternoon all the way into Saturday,” Harris said.
A freezing rain advisory is in effect from Nacona to Granbury, Glen Rose, Meridian and Gatesville and Lampasas, Harris said.
Light freezing rain, ice pellets and sleet could accumulate on overpasses in those areas through 3 p.m. Thursday, he said.
The high Wednesday is expected to be 39, but dip into the high 20s New Year’s morning. Temperatures will barely reach the 50s by Saturday, he said.
