Forest Hill City Council member dies suddenly, city says

A Forest Hill City Council member has died unexpectedly, the city’s mayor said Thursday.

“It is with deep sadness that I have been made aware of the sudden and unexpected passing of Councilman Anthony Cook, Forest Hill City Council Place 2,” Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham said in a news release. “During his time in office, Councilman Cook demonstrated a sincere commitment to the residents he was so honored to represent.”

Boardingham said she spoke with Cook on Wednesday; he had been hospitalized several days prior. He was 53 years old. Boardingham could not confirm whether Cook died on Wednesday or early Thursday.

Cook was a longtime city employee in the Forest Hill Public Works department before his tenure on city council, Boardingham said. He was re-elected for his second term in May.
