The search for a man who went missing on Benbrook Lake on Saturday resumed Sunday morning, Texas Game Warden officials said.

Texas Game Wardens responded to a possible water fatality about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Benbrook Lake after witnesses reported that two men jumped from a vessel to assist a child. One went under water and did not resurface, officials said in a news release.

The high winds and “choppy” water conditions made the search efforts slow and difficult, officials said.

Wardens searched the northeast portion of Benbrook Lake near Longhorn Park Drive all afternoon and into the evening on Saturday, officials said.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends during this difficult time,” officials said

This is one of six water fatalities Texas Game Wardens responded to across the state on Saturday. According to the Texas Game Wardens many water-related tragedies are preventable by taking a few simple precautions:

  • Wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
  • Don’t boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Keep a close eye on children.
  • Wear your vessel’s emergency engine cut-off switch.
  • Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Avoid unnecessary risks.
