Planned $1.1B data center campus near Benbrook could break ground this summer
The developer behind a proposed $1.1 billion, 186-acre Fort Worth data center project near Veale Ranch that recently withdrew an application for a tax agreement with the city has filed initial construction paperwork that reveals new details about the development.
On May 15, Edged Data Centers — a subsidiary of sustainable infrastructure company Endeavor — registered the project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The company is proposing to build a data center near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Chapin School Road.
The TDLR filing lists a construction cost of $300 million, with a size of roughly 488,000 square feet. In the presentation given by city staff for the tax agreement proposal, Edged said that the data center would be developed in two phases, with the first phase costing about $270 million. The TDLR filings do not list additional phases of development.
Construction is planned to begin in late July, finishing by the end of 2027, according to TDLR.
The project has come under scrutiny from residents, who have organized efforts to try and create guardrails for the development. Fort Worth was set to consider offering Edged a 50% tax break on equipment property taxes provided it met metrics around investments and jobs created by the data center, but the developer withdrew that application on April 30.
The data center has received approval from ERCOT, the state’s power grid operator.
Edged did not return a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
