Moldy peppers, expired food found at Dallas restaurants; 1 fails inspection
One Dallas restaurant failed during the March 22-28 round of health inspections, and several others received low scores, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Dallas food establishments are scored on a 100-point system that is different from Fort Worth. A range of 100-90 is considered very good. Restaurants that score from 69-60 fail and must undergo a follow-up inspection within 10 days or face closure.
Mei Asian Cuisine at 7325 Gaston Ave. scored 68 on March 24. The inspector noticed a black substance inside the ice machine, dirty vent hoods and shelves and an employee without a hair restraint. The person in charge also couldn’t explain how to properly sanitize food-contact surfaces.
Nine other establishments passed but will need a follow-up inspection:
- Fusion Mediterranean Grill and Bar at 12835 Preston Road scored 70 on March 23. The thermometer in the walk-in cooler was broken, an employee didn’t wash their hands before chopping vegetables and some food containers weren’t labeled.
- K Market at 6911 Frankford Road scored 71 on March 25. The inspector found moldy bell peppers and dented cans in the walk-in cooler and saw an employee wash their hands without soap.
- Swamp Cafe at 17721 Dallas Parkway scored 72 on March 27. The food manager certificate was expired, carts were blocking access to the hand sink and there was mold in the ice machine.
- I Luv Pho Noodle Soup and Grill at 7927 Forest Lane scored 73 on March 25. Several roaches were found around the cook line, raw chicken was stored above tofu in the reach-in cooler and there was food debris on some of the equipment.
- Daps Bar at 2010 Commerce St. scored 74 on March 27. Moldy lemons were found in the reach-in cooler, raw eggs were stored over some sauces and several foods were stored at an unsafe temperature.
- Golden Dragon Chinese Buffet at 2828 Webb Chapel Extension scored 75 on March 24. The inspector noted the ice machine and microwave needed to be cleaned, and several food containers had been in the walk-in cooler for more than seven days.
- Westin at 12720 Merit Drive scored 76 on March 27. The sausage was held at an unsafe temperature, several food containers weren’t dated and the plastic spoons weren’t stored with the handles facing up.

Roaches were seen at two schools and an early childhood center:
