The second teenage girl involved in a sledding accident in Frisco over the weekend has died.

Grace Brito’s mother told KTVT-TV in a statement that the family is devastated by the loss of their 16-year-old daughter.

“She took pride in lifting others up,” Tracy Brito said in the statement. “She was creative, strong‑minded, and a VERY bubbly girl.”

Grace Brito and 16-year-old Elizabeth Angle, were critically injured Sunday afternoon when their sled hit a curb and crashed into a tree, according to Frisco police. They were being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old boy when the accident occurred.

Angle, a Wakefield High School sophomore and student athlete, died a short time later at the hospital. Brito remained on life support until her death Tuesday night, KTVT reported. Family members say the two girls were best friends.

Brito spent “six irreplaceable seasons” training at Express Cheer Frisco, according to the organization’s Instagram post.

“Gracie’s positivity always radiated to her teammates,” the post reads. “She grew up to become a leader within our Express family, and we are so lucky that we got to have time with her.”

The team “will be taking the mat this weekend at ACA Nationals on Saturday at 5:09 pm for Gracie,” according to the post.

Frisco police have not publicly identified the driver of the Jeep Wrangler.

“This incident remains under active investigation, with support from the Denton County District Attorney’s Office,” the agency said on Facebook.

Another North Texas teen, Caden Nowicki, was injured in a sledding accident Monday, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported. The 17-year-old Ponder High School senior is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Ponder ISD Superintendent James Hill sent out a letter asking for prayers for Nowicki and said the district is collecting food gift cards for the teen’s family, according to WFAA.

“Caden is an outstanding young man who is loved by many,” Hill said.
