Elliot and William, each weighing a little over 3 pounds, will grow up with the distinction of being the first set of twins born in 2026 in North Texas.

Elizabeth and Ed Evans welcomed their sons on New Year’s Day at Baylor Scott White Medical Center in Grapevine, after weeks of hospital observation.

“I think we appreciate that every year it’s their birthdays, people will be letting out fireworks, I presume, in their honor,” Ed said.

Elizabeth had been in the hospital’s labor and delivery unit for about 20 days as doctors monitored her and the babies for complications, and she went into labor around 11 p.m. on Dec 31. The boys were delivered by cesarean section

She said their goal was to have the twins delivered around 32 weeks, but the twins decided to arrive one week early.

“It was a very anxious moment, because we never knew if we were going to make it to a point where we are right now,” Elizabeth Evans said. “But I think the group of nurses and doctors, the care that they provided, really gave me peace of mind, they were very friendly, I was always well taken care of. I was praying a lot, I trusted the doctors, I trusted the nurses.”

Ed Evans, said it was tough for his wife to be stuck in bed for all that time, but the nurses and team at Baylor Grapevine did a great job taking care of her.

Baby 1 arrived at 1:16 a.m., and baby 2 was delivered two minutes later at 1:18 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

“It’s been three-plus weeks of a little bit of anxiety, wondering, under observation,” Ed Evans said. “Then to hear the nurses and team, once they are out here in the real world saying that they’re in a good place, and we can see them and hopefully touch [them], do skin-to-skin later today is fantastic news.”

Ed, who is from England, and Elizabeth, who is from Mexico, are first-time parents and have been married for three years. They said they have been leaning on their community for support.

“I just think when you’re going through something like this, when families are on the other side of the world, it’s amazing to have sort of an adopted family, helping and supporting you here in Texas.”

The boys are expected to remain in the neonatal intensive care unit for three to five weeks.
