Bedford’s Stonegate Shopping Center is getting a fresh look with an outdoor pavilion with seating and food kiosks.

The City Council voted 7-0 Sept. 9 to approve zoning to allow a 7,036-square-foot pavilion as anchor Turning Point Beer is expanding.

Indoor pickleball court is also coming to Stonegate, at the corner of Brown Trail and Bedford Road.

Mark Cohen, president and founder of Dallas-based Centerpoint Commercial Properties, said during the public hearing that the company spearheaded the redevelopment of Stonegate.

“We purchased that site because Turning point is there,” he said. “We saw the opportunity to revitalize that center. We’ve had success doing that sort of thing.”

Center Point purchased dated, rundown shopping centers the past seven years, Cohen said.

“Every one of them has gone from a dead, no-traffic center to a vibrant center with new tenants,” he said.

Cohen said there are exciting plants for Stonegate with more restaurants and businesses.

Mayor Dan Cogan welcomed the news.

“Obviously, you’re showing us that you’re committed to it,” he said.

Molly Fox, a spokesperson for the city, said ATP Pickleball, expected to open this fall, has added murals with a Bedford theme.
