A 13-year-old Erath County girl is recovering after being attacked by a wild hog on the family’s property Friday morning, the girl’s father said in a Facebook post.

Erath County sheriff’s deputies and EMS responded to the property on U.S. Highway 281 North near Morgan Mill Road at around 7:15 a.m. Friday, officials said. The girl was taking her dogs outside when the hog came out of thick brush and attacked her, wounding her leg.

One dog remained at the girl’s side while the other chased the hog away, her father said. The father was able to apply a tourniquet and the girl walked to the ambulance on her own, Erath County officials said.

“If it wasn’t for our sweet Luna and Ozzy, things could’ve been so much worse,” the father wrote on Facebook alongside a photo of the girl and her dogs. The girl received 44 stitches and “is now home watching ALL the Harry Potter movies,” her father wrote.
