A Texas state trooper was injured as he tried to arrest a suspect in Ellis County on Friday afternoon, officials said in a statement.

The trooper tried to perform a traffic stop after witnessing a red GMC pickup truck commit a traffic violation, according to the statement. As the truck was coming to a stop, a passenger in the front seat got out and ran from the vehicle, which stopped a short distance later.

The trooper was injured when the driver resisted arrest, officials said. The trooper had minor injuries but was able to complete the arrest.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Jose Molina of Fort Worth, was charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana, according to the statement. Molina is being held in the Ellis County Jail.

The trooper is being treated at a hospital, officials said.
