A multi-vehicle crash that may have involved alcohol injured five people and closed a major intersection in Grapevine early Friday, police said.

Officers responded to the intersection of Grapevine Mills Parkway and Grapevine Mills Boulevard N. about 1:40 a.m. The driver of a black Ford Focus had collided with two other vehicles, police said in a news release.

The Ford’s driver and three passengers and the driver of a Hyundai Elantra were seriously injured, according to the release. All of them were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of a Ford Taurus wasn’t injured.

The intersection remained closed as of 8:30 a.m., and drivers are encouraged to seek other routes. A power pole and traffic control box were damaged in the crash, and temporary stop signs will be used until the traffic signals can be repaired.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, and police said alcohol may have been a factor.
