Train derailment in downtown Waxahachie leads to road closures
The City of Waxahachie announced multiple road closures Tuesday morning after a train with over 100 cars derailed downtown overnight.
According to WFAA-TV, some of the train cars were carrying ethanol but no leaks occurred. Sixteen of the cars derailed and 10 additional cars tipped over.
No injuries were reported in the accident.
The city said in a statement on Facebook that first responders and other city crews were on-site to help secure the area to allow Union Pacific to work on moving the train cars. City officials said that clearing the roads might take several hours.
The city also included which roads would be temporarily closed. Those roads include Rogers, Monroe, Elm, Ferris Avenue, Wyatt, Kaufman near downtown, and Highway 77 at Marvin southward. Officials urged drivers to use caution and avoid the area if possible.
