Two Southlake police officers were injured in separate accidents while responding to a call on Monday afternoon, police said.

About 2:15 p.m. a motorcycle officer was hurt in a crash in the 300 block of East Southlake Boulevard, near Olivia Court, police said.

The motorcycle officer was responding to a fight in progress call when a work truck pulled in front of the police motorcycle to turn southbound onto Olivia Court, causing the crash, police said.

Images from television news helicopters showed the officer’s damaged motorcycle lying on its side with pieces broken off in the roadway.

Another officer responding to the same call in a police SUV was involved in the second crash — on east Southlake Boulevard near the intersection of Byron Nelson Parkway — when a driver failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled in front of the officer’s Chevy Tahoe, police said.

The motorcycle officer was taken to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Grapevine with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The officer in the police car was treated and released with minor injuries, police said.

Both officers had their emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the collisions, investigators said.

Police had asked the public to avoid the area around Southlake Boulevard and Olivia Court after the officer-involved accidents.
