Murder suspect fatally shot himself after chase that shut down I-35W, Fort Worth police say
Two people, including the suspect, are dead in an apparent murder-suicide after a shooting and subsequent chase Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, officials with the Fort Worth Police Department said.
Officers responded to a west Fort Worth apartment complex in the 2900 block of Buckskin Run at around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a person had been shot, police said.
Police located the victim, who had been shot multiple times, in a parking lot in the 9200 block of North Normandale Street, officials said.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and she died from her injuries, according to a police statement. She has been identified as 42-year-old Cecelia Marie Martinez on the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website. Her death was ruled a homicide.
The suspect was located at around 5:52 p.m. and led police on a chase down the southbound I-35W freeway near Heritage Trace Parkway, police said.
The chase ended after the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop. Police believe the suspect fatally shot himself, officials said.
The incident closed all lanes of traffic on the freeway for a period of time Saturday evening, police told the Star-Telegram.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the suspect as 49-year-old Arthur Joseph Vasquez of Roanoke.
No officers fired their weapons and no one else was injured, according to a police statement.
Officials with the Fort Worth Police Department’s Homicide and Major Case units are investigating the incident.
