Arlington woman among three Texans pardoned by President Joe Biden

An Arlington woman was one of three Texans granted pardons by President Joe Biden on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Biden also granted clemency to nearly 1,500 Americans, the most ever in a single day, according to a White House news release. The president commuted the sentences of people “who have shown successful rehabilitation and a strong commitment to making their communities safer,” the release states.

North Texan Lashundra Tenneal Wilson was among 39 individuals convicted of non-violent crimes who were pardoned. Wilson, 49, pleaded guilty to a non-violent offense when she was a teenager, the White House said.

Since then, Wilson pursued an education and has worked in the healthcare field, according to a list of recipients published by the White House.

“Ms. Wilson gives back to the community by volunteering at community health fairs and raising funds for non-profit health organizations,” the statement said. “Ms. Wilson has been praised for her work ethic, trustworthiness, and dependability by community members.”

Presidential pardons can help people who have completed their sentences restore their right to vote and other civil rights.

The individuals who sentences were shortened through clemency had been placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities, the White House said.
