Passengers duct-tape man when he tries to open plane door on American Airlines flight
A man on board an American Airlines flight was restrained and duct-taped by other passengers after he was accused of assaulting a flight attendant and trying to open a door while the plane was in the air, according to a police report.
Officers from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Department of Public Safety responded and took the disruptive passenger into custody when American Airlines Flight 1915 from Milwaukee arrived at DFW on Tuesday morning, Nov. 19, the airport said in a statement.
“The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority and we thank our team members and customers for managing a difficult situation,” American Airlines said in a statement.
A flight attendant told DFW Airport police that the man got up during the flight and said he needed to get off the plane, according to the police report. The man reportedly rushed the flight attendant, injuring her neck and wrist, while trying to get to the door.
Other passengers pinned the man down and restrained him by taping his wrists and ankles together, the report states.
The flight attendant was taken to a hospital, and the man was taken for a mental health evaluation, according to the report. No criminal charges have been announced.
