A 38-year-old Irving police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon, officials said.

Officer Jerome Scholz was off-duty when the accident occurred, according to an Irving Police Department news release. He died at a local hospital less than an hour later.

He was loved by so many and truly had a heart of a servant,” the department said on social media. “We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Scholz’s family and loved ones.”

Irving police officers responded to a multi-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in the 7800 block of Valley View Lane around 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 15. They found that Scholz was the motorcycle crash victim, the release states.

A preliminary investigation suggests the other driver was turning and failed to yield the right of way, according to the release.

Scholz, a U.S. Army veteran, had worked with the Irving Police Department for five years.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 N. Story Road in Irving.
