A nearly century-old barbecue institution in the Fort Worth Stockyards is gearing up to host its annual rib-eating competition.

Riscky’s Barbeque is hosting its 18th annual rib eating competition at 11 a.m. Saturday at 140 E. Exchange Ave. A total of $850 in Riscky’s gift cards is up for grabs.

The competition challenges 30 barbecue fans to eat as many beef ribs as possible in only 60 seconds.

After the initial round, the top three contestants will move into a head-to-head matchup. The first-place winner will take home a $500 Ricky’s gift card, second place a $250 gift card, and third place a $100 gift card.

All participants must pay a $5 entry fee at the door on the day of the event. Sign-ups are first come, first serve and limited to 30 competitors.

Everyone who participates will receive a complimentary Riscky’s t-shirt. The rib-eating competition is being held in tandem with a series of events hosted in the Stockyards in honor of National Day of the American Cowboy.

“We are excited to once again present Fort Worth’s most legendary food challenge,” Riscky’s Barbeque co-owner Eddie Sullivan said. “Whether you’re participating or spectating this year, it’s always a thrill to witness these hearty food enthusiasts take on our mouthwatering ribs.”

Riscky’s Grocery & Market was founded in Fort Worth in 1927 by Polish immigrants Mary and Joe Riscky.

Over the past 97 years, Riscky’s has expanded into several restaurant encompassing burgers, barbecue, delis, steakhouse and catering. For more on Riscky’s, visit here.
