Inmate dies in Tarrant County jail custody. Cause of death hasn’t been determined
An inmate died Monday in the custody of the Tarrant County Jail, according to the Tarrant Medical Examiner’s Office. No cause or manner of death has been determined. An autopsy is pending.
Chasity Corday Bonner, 35, of North Richland Hills was pronounced dead just after noon Monday at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that Bonner was found unresponsive in her cell around 11 a.m. Monday. JPS staff in the jail were called and attempted life-saving measures. They also administered two doses of Narcan, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Bonner was taken by MedStar to JPS, where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.
Around 9:15 a.m. Monday, Bonner was seen by medical staff in the jail but refused further treatment and asked to go back to her cell, the Sheriff’s Office said. The release did not include any details on why medical staff were examining her.
Bonner had been in jail since she was booked on May 16 on a charge of theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000 and a parole violation.
The Sheriff’s Office said that all in-custody deaths are reviewed and investigated by jail staff, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, an outside law enforcement agency, JPS staff, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
