Memorial Day is nearly here, which means Fort Worth businesses will have holiday hours this weekend.

In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act establishing Memorial Day as the last Monday in May, according to The History Channel. The act went into effect in 1971 and ever since the day has been recognized as a federal holiday.

Yes, liquor stores are open on Memorial Day.

Per Texas law, the only day’s liquor stores are required to close are on Sunday’s, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. If Christmas or New Year’s Day fall on a Sunday, liquor stores must close the following Monday.

Texas liquor stores are legally allowed to operate 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Are banks or the post office open on Memorial Day?

No, the post office and most banks will be closed as it’s a federal holiday.

Are Fort Worth city services open on Memorial Day?

No, most city offices, such as City Hall, will be closed in Fort Worth on Memorial Day.

However, Fort Worth’s garbage collection will operate normal hours on Monday.
