A Keller teenager was killed when his BMW collided with another vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 377 and Westport Parkway in Westlake on Saturday, according to police and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Caleb Stewart Essen, 17, was unconscious when emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash, which happened around 1:30 p.m. They attempted lifesaving measures but Essen was pronounced dead at the scene, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported.

WFAA reported that, according to police, Essen was in a black BMW that was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red light, striking a white Toyota. Two people inside the Toyota sustained minor injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

A fundraiser has been started on GoFundMe to help Essen’s family. It had collected more than $7,000 in donations as of Wednesday afternoon.
