Need medical marijuana? Fort Worth pickup location expanding hours to include Saturdays
A medical marijuana company is expanding its pickup hours in Fort Worth to increase access for patients.
Texas Original served its first patient in 2018 and has pickup locations across the state. In North Texas, the medical marijuana provider has pickup locations in Fort Worth, Dallas, Addison, Frisco, Plano and Hurst.
At its Fort Worth pickup location, which has operated since October 2021, Texas Original is adding Saturday to its schedule.
Now patients can pickup their medical marijuana prescriptions from noon to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Compound Athletics at 2529 Weisenberger St.
The primary reason behind the expanded schedule is to simply increase access for patients.
“We know that for some patients, it’s difficult to pick up their medicine if it’s during work hours during the week,” Texas Original CEO Nico Richardson told the Star-Telegram. “We’ve really made an effort now to start opening and expanding hours on weekends for patients that need to pick up on time.”
Who qualifies for medical marijuana in Texas?
Only Texans with certain medical conditions qualify for medicinal marijuana.
The DPS operates an online registry of physicians who prescribe the low-grade cannabis to people with:
- Epilepsy
- Seizure disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Spasticity
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Autism
- Terminal cancer
- Incurable neurodegenerative disease like muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s.
Texas Original has a form on its website for those wanting to see if they qualify for a medical marijuana prescription, Richardson said. Find the form here.
What forms of medical marijuana are available to take?
There are a few options patients can choose from.
Texas Original offers medicinal marijuana in gummy and tincture form. Both forms are fast acting, but Richardson said the tincture is primarily faster since its sublingual and applied under the tongue.
“Our onset times for both these products can range anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, instead of sometimes an hour to two hours for a non-medicated product,” Richardson said.
