Another Tarrant County Jail inmate dies in custody after transport to JPS Hospital

Another inmate at the Tarrant County Jail has died, according to Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office records.

William Burns, 47, died Sept. 16 after he was transported from the jail to John Peter Smith Hospital.

Burns was being treated for a terminal illness at JPS, a representative with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Wednesday press release. He was booked into jail in January after being arrested by Mansfield police on a charges of injury to a child or elderly person with intent to cause harm and aggravated assault.

Burns was admitted to JPS in July and had signed a “Do Not Resuscitate” order, according to the release.

His cause and manner of death are still pending.

This is the second Tarrant County Jail death in the past week. Carlos Rodriguez Munos died Sept. 14 after being transferred to a Garza County facility under an $18 million county contract.

Munos, 47, had been diagnosed with leukemia, according to custodial death records.
