Amber Alert canceled after 1-year-old boy from Tyler, Texas, found safe; mother arrested

The Tyler Police Department said Wednesday that a 1-year-old boy from North Texas who was reported missing has been recovered safely.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon for 1-year-old Jamar Ross.

The suspect was his mother, 26-year-old Tarhondia Jackson.

About 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, the Tyler Police Department was notified that Jackson had shown up at the Department of Family and Protective Services office in Tyler and turned over Jamar, police said in a news release. The toddler is now in the custody of Child Protective Services. Jackson was arrested on a charge from another offense and booked into the Smith County Jail, police said.

Jamar had last been seen at around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of West Sims Street in Tyler, Texas.

Tyler is about 130 miles east of Fort Worth.

According to news release, the Tyler Police Department received a report Friday at around 1:30 p.m. from CPS that they were to take the child into their custody from the house where he was last seen.

The child was not at the residence and was believed to be with his mother, the report said.
