The food scene in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is about to get a little sweeter.

A Portland-based doughnut chain known for its imaginative take on the quintessential American treat is set to open its first North Texas location.

Voodoo Doughnut will open a location in Dallas at 1806 Greenville Ave., making it the eighth location in Texas. Previously, the two closest locations to the Dallas-Fort Worth area were in Austin.

Voodoo Doughnut started in Portland, Oregon after founders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon rented a small storefront for their shop in 2003.

Since then, Voodoo Doughnut has opened nearly 20 locations across the United States with locations in Oregon, Texas, Colorado, Washington and Arizona.

Voodoo Doughnut offers more than 50 artisan flavor options including 25 vegan options.

Menu items include a vanilla frosting and Cap’n Crunch “Oh Captain, My Captain” doughnut, raspberry jelly filled “Voodoo Doll” and the award-winning “Bacon Maple Bar.”

Registration filing information with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation estimates completion on the shop in late August, however an opening date for the Dallas location has not been announced.
