Drowning a leading cause of death in kids. These Fort Worth swim lesson schools can help

With summer vacation here, now may be a good time to invest in swim lessons for students who don’t know how to swim.

More kids ages one to four die from drowning than any other cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Drowning is also the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for ages five to 14, the first being motor vehicle crashes.

Children are not the only ones who can drown. The United States has an average of 4,000 fatal drowning deaths every year and around 8,000 nonfatal drownings.

Texas had 1.44 drowning deaths for every 100,000 people between 2018-2021, according to CDC data.

Drowning is not always fatal, but it could have lasting consequences. The CDC reports that nonfatal drowning could result in brain damage or permanent disability.
