Glow-in-the-dark playground opening in North Texas will let children have fun past dark
A one-of-a-kind, glow-in-the-dark park is set to open in North Texas with colorful lighting and an inclusive design offering fun for children after sundown.
The park called Joya — pronounced “ho-ya” — will be located in Farmers Branch at Oran Good Park, 13300 Dennis Lane.
Joya translates to “jewel” in Spanish and the name was chosen because the park is expected to be the crown jewel park in Farmers Branch, according to a release.
The main attraction of the 18,000 square foot park will be a 27-foot dense mesh-enclosed sphere with six levels of climbing, swings and slides. The sphere is recommended for ages six and older or with adult supervision for children under six.
This free to the public park will also have swings, an obstacle course, a zip line with interactive lights, a spin zone with LED lights and glowing seating.
Park hours will be adjusted based on seasonal lighting levels, weather and community needs. Longer hours for kids activities and play, especially during the summer months, was one goal identified during the park’s development stage, according to the city of Farmers Branch Parks.
Construction on Joya started Monday and the park is expected to open this fall.
