Police investigate after someone at Mansfield sports tournament was kicked out, got a gun

Authorities are investigating after someone brought a gun to a basketball tournament at FieldhouseUSA in Mansfield on Sunday, leading someone to yell “shots fired” and attendees to flee the area, according to a news release from Mansfield police.

No shots were actually fired and no injuries were reported, according to police, but investigators are working to determine more details of what happened. So far, investigators have determined that there was a fight and a parent and coach were asked to leave the Fieldhouse and when they went outside, one of them retrieved a gun out of his car. Police are still trying to identify who it was that had the gun.

Someone in the parking lot saw the gun and yelled that shots were fired, leading to the panic, according to police.

The incident occurred around noon.

FieldhouseUSA at 650 U.S. 287 North is a city-owned facility maintained and operated by a third party, according to the city’s website. According to the FieldhouseUSA website, the facility was hosting the Heart of Texas Showcase basketball tournament this weekend.

The rest of the tournament events on Sunday were canceled after the incident, according to police.
