Million dollar Texas Lottery prize claimed by North Texas resident
A Grand Prairie resident claimed a Texas Lottery game prize worth $1 million, the Texas Lottery Commission announced in a news release.
The winning ticket was purchased at Buckeye Liquor located at 2850 Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas.
The claimant chose to remain anonymous.
The winning Quick Pick ticket matched all five of the white ball numbers drawn, which were 14, 17, 33, 42 and 66, but not the Mega Ball number 15. The $1 million prize is the second of nine top prizes in the March 24 “Mega Millions” game.
Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 numbers and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but could still walk away winning a prize. Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier prize of $1 million by matching the first five numbers. By choosing the Megaplier for $1 more per play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by up to two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million.
Drawings are broadcast each Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT.
The Texas Lottery has generated $36.6 billion in revenue for the state and distributed $79.9 billion in prizes to lottery players since selling the first ticket in 1992.
Since 1997, the Texas Lottery has contributed $30.6 billion to the Foundation School Fund, which supports public education in Texas.
Certain Texas Lottery revenues benefit state programs including the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. Since the first veterans’ themed scratch ticket game was launched in 2009, the Texas Lottery has contributed more than $202 million for programs supporting Texas veterans.
The Texas Lottery provides several games for lottery players including Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto Texas, All or Nothing, Texas Two Step, Pick 3, Daily 4, Cash Five, and scratch ticket games.
