3 are injured and 4 are dead after Carrollton wreck involving several vehicles, fire
Three people were injured and four were pronounced dead from a car crash involving multiple vehicles in Carrollton early Saturday morning, according to the Carrollton Police Department.
Police responded at 9 p.m. Friday to a “serious-injury crash” involving two vehicles in the 2100 block of southbound North I-35 East.
The roadway was closed for the investigation.
As the investigation for the crash was being concluded, a second crash occurred in the traffic back-up at 12:43 a.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of southbound North I-35 East. The second crash involved an 18-wheeler and four passenger vehicles.
The initial impact of the second crash was the 18-wheeler crashing into one of the passenger vehicles. The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire and crash into three other vehicles.
Three people were transported to local hospitals. Four people were pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators from Carrollton, Irving, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the occupants in the vehicles that caught fire, Carrollton police said in a news release Tuesday.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash that led to both accidents.
