Driver dies in crash when SUV hits highway sign on I-30 west in Grand Prairie, police say
The driver of a sport utility vehicle died after crashing into an interstate highway sign in the median of I-30 westbound in Grand Prairie early Monday morning, according to police.
The crash occurred near Belt Line Road about 1 a.m.
A Toyota SUV traveling westbound left the roadway and hit a sign between the main lanes and the westbound frontage road, Grand Prairie police said in a news release.
The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Texas Department of Transportation kept all westbound lanes of the highway closed for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage from the accident.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner will identify the driver once next of kin have been notified.
TxDOT put a detour in place for drivers on their morning commute. The lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
