Maintenance worker shot, killed while checking for frozen pipes, police say
The shooting death of a maintenance worker at a Grand Prairie apartment complex remains under investigation Monday, police said.
Cesar Montelongo, 53, was shot Saturday while apparently checking for frozen or broken waterlines on residents’ balconies at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Alouette Drive, according to a Grand Prairie Police Department news release.
A resident mistook Montelongo for a burglar and shot him through the window, police said. Montelongo was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.
The death is listed as a homicide on the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website.
Officials said the resident who shot Montelongo remained at the scene and cooperated with Grand Prairie detectives. No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon and the detectives will refer the case to a Tarrant County grand jury for review.
