North Texas couple killed when single-engine plane crashes near Cleburne Regional Airport
A North Texas couple were killed when a single-engine plane crashed just south of Cleburne Regional Airport in Johnson County late Sunday night.
According to a Federal Aviation Administration report, two people were on board the Cessna 205, which crashed about 9 p.m. The pilot and a passenger were killed.
The Fort Worth 99s, an organization for women pilots, identified the couple as Jeanette Stone, 30, and her husband, Will Lyons, 34, of Granbury.
“The Fort Worth 99s chapter is devastated by the loss of chapter member Jeanette Stone and her husband Will Lyons in last night’s tragic aircraft accident at Cleburne Regional Airport,” the group wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the many, many aviators that loved them.”
The couple were flying from West Virginia back to Granbury. Their plane crashed shortly after they stopped to refuel at the Cleburne airport.
Residents reported the crash happened behind an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Mayfield Parkway.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA will investigate the crash.
