Abused kids going through hardships in Tarrant County this Christmas. Here’s how to help
During the Christmas season, abused kids and their families in Tarrant County have even more stressful times as they try to get gifts.
Officials at the Alliance For Children are once again working to help as the nonprofit agency — which serves abused children through teamed investigations, healing services and community education — is seeking donations for its annual Christmas event.
The event is Christmas Connection, which is scheduled for Dec. 8-10. Those days will be just for child abuse victims and their protective family members who are being served by Alliance For Children.
A donations campaign has started for toys, games, crafts, electronics, dolls/stuffed animals and articles of clothing for Christmas Connection.
According to Alliance For Children, over 63,000 children have benefited from the agency since 1992. The organization operates child-friendly centers in Arlington, Fort Worth, Hurst and Lakeside.
Officials noted that of the families who reported their income to Alliance For Children, 63 percent self-identified as coming from low-to-moderate-income households.
Last year, more than 250 abused kids and their families attended Christmas Connection.
Christmas Connection is offered to qualifying families where available items to pick out gifts are assigned a point value in place of an assigned dollar value.
Alliance For Children officials will accept new and unwrapped items and toys for children ages birth through 17 years of age.
Residents may shop personally and deliver items to the area locations of Alliance For Children or shop through the organization’s Amazon wish list.
Monetary donations can also be made, allowing Alliance For Children staff to shop for you..
The donation deadline for gifts is Dec. 2.
To make donations, residents can go online to the In-Person shopping list, Amazon Wish List or monetary donations page (please note “Christmas Connection” in the note section for the monetary donation.)
