A Carrollton mother was killed Monday and several of her children were injured in a hit-and-run crash near an intersection in Carrollton, authorities said.

A warrant has been issued for the hit-and-run driver who left the scene of the fatal crash near Marsh Lane and Dove Creek Lane.

The name of the 43-year-old woman killed in the crash has not been released by authorities.

KDFW-TV reported that five children were in the woman’s vehicle and they were taken to a local hospital. Two remained in the hospital as of Tuesday.

The wreck involved a red Camaro and a minivan, which was driven by the woman. After the crash, the driver of the Camaro ran away from the scene.

Carrollton police were working on Wednesday to find the hit-and-run driver, who may have been street racing, according to KDFW-TV.

Richard Blair and his wife, Evellyn Blair, told KDFW that they were heading northbound when they noticed a red Camaro speeding south. The driver of the Camaro lost control on the slick road and the sports car veered into oncoming traffic, they said.

“He was speeding by us,” Evellyn Blair recalled. “And I looked, and I heard a crash. He jumped over the median.”

The Blairs saw the wreckage of the Camaro and a dark-colored Toyota, and drove to the scene, where they heard the cries of children.

“She was like, ‘My mom! My mom! My mom is gone!’ It was the most gut-wrenching cry you could ever hear,” Evellyn Blair said.

The children’s mother was pronounced dead at the scene.
