The state fair closed early Friday night after some fair goers tried to “create chaos” and crowds of people stampeded through the fair grounds fearing an active shooter, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA reported.

People at the fair Friday night fled a non-existent shooter in the Midway, according to WFAA and video posted on social media.

Karissa Condoianis, a spokesperson for the fair, told WFAA that some fairgoers were “trying to create chaos” by running through the fairgrounds.

Condoianis told WFAA the fair went back to normal after the shooting scare, but the fair still closed an hour early.
