Pet owners who need to vaccinate their furry friends won’t have to venture far to do so, thanks to an upcoming clinic.

The Ellis County Sherriff’s Office and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have partnered together to bring a free pet vaccination clinic to the Ellis County Expo Center. Pet owners can visit the expo center on Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon for vaccinations.

“Thanks to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office for their partnership and to Merck and Petco Love for their sponsorship, we can offer these important vaccines at no cost to pet owners,” said Karen Froehlich, SPCA of Texas President and CEO, in a statement.

A few of the vaccines available at the event include:

  • Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia (FVRCP)
  • Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus (DAPPv)
  • Rabies
  • Microchipping is available too.

The vaccination clinic is visiting to help stop preventable deadly diseases from harming pets, such as parvovirus and distemper in dogs, and panleukopenia in cats. Around 30% of pet parents do not take their pets to a veterinarian annually for preventative care like vaccines, according to the SPCA of Texas.

The Ellis County Sherriff’s Office, SPCA of Texas, Merck and Petco Love, have partnered to hold the free pet vaccination clinic. The plan is to vaccinate at least 200 pets at the event, according to the SPCA of Texas.

Anyone in Ellis County is welcome to the vaccination clinic, but it is first-come, first-served. The vaccines and microchipping are all free, thanks to funding from biopharmaceutical company Merck, and Petco Love.

The vaccination clinic will be held at the Ellis County Expo Center, 2300 US 287, Waxahachie, TX 75167, on Aug. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon.
