Concrete slabs, charred columns all that remain of homes burned near Possum Kingdom Lake

The wildfire near Possum Kingdom Lake is 15% contained as of Wednesday evening, according to Adam Turner, public information officer with Texas A&M Forest Service.

According to Turner, five homes have been destroyed so far along with five outbuildings such as sheds and barns. The fire has burned an estimated 500 acres.

All of the homes that burned were on the west side of Possum Kingdom Lake, in Palo Pinto County, about 80 miles west of Fort Worth.

Concrete slabs with only charred columns and chimneys remaining could be seen from the lake.

No flames could be seen in the affected area Wednesday morning, but the smell of smoke and feel of heat were intense.

Firefighters could be seen hosing down the rubble and clearing shrubbery.

Turner said they didn’t know how long it might be before the fire is completely contained, but firefighters are keeping it from spreading.

“We’ll be out here until we feel confident that it will stay in place,” Turner said.
