A 6-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a school bus Monday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

The accident occurred in the 400 block of Canyon Creek Circle, west of Weatherford, around 4 p.m.

A school bus for Brock school district, was driving southeast on the road and had stopped to drop off several students, a news release from Sgt. Richard Hunter, with DPS, said.

“As the bus began moving, one of the students, a 6-year-old female, was struck by the bus and died at the scene,” Hunter said.

No further information was provided and the investigation remains ongoing.

The school district, in an online social media statement, confirmed the reports and said they were “deeply saddened,” by the news.

“No other students were injured. We are working through the accident with local law enforcement and school administrators but our focus remains on the healing of one of our own at this time,” the school district said, adding that counselors will be available on its campuses Tuesday.
