2 people die after helicopter crash in Rowlett

A helicopter pilot and another person are dead after a crash in Rowlett on Friday around 11:30 a.m., according to Rowlett police.

Rowlett police said on their Twitter account that the helicopter crashed in the 2200 block of Lakeview Parkway and was on fire.

Police said around 1 p.m. that the pilot and one other person did not survive the crash. Their names have not been released.

No details were immediately released as to the cause of the crash or if anybody else was injured. Police said around 2 p.m. that Lakeview Parkway was open again in both directions.

Grisham Drive, which was closed because of the crash, was also cleared after Rowlett police cleared the crash wreckage, according to the department’s Twitter.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
