Fort Worth man, 81, killed in Lewisville crash involving 18-wheeler, police say

An 81-year-old Fort Worth man died after an accident involving an 18-wheeler, Lewisville police said.

The crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 35E.

Police say a vehicle was stopped in one of the interstate’s lanes and an 18-wheeler crashed into the back of the vehicle, “pushing it a few hundred feet down the highway.”

“In the crash, the fuel tank of the 18-wheeler ruptured, spilling diesel fuel across multiple lanes,” police said. “The driver of the original vehicle, 81 year-old Kenneth Walter Olson, of Fort Worth, was conscious and talking with Lewisville Fire Department shortly after the crash. He was taken to Medical City Lewisville for evaluation. A short time later, Mr. Olson died.”

The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries and police said no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

Investigators believe Olson’s car experienced mechanical problems, which caused the vehicle to stop in the roadway, but the investigation remains ongoing.
